Lee R. Bailey

Lee R. Bailey, affectionately known as “Pop-Pop”, of Hazlet, passed away at the age of 73 on Friday, January 4, 2019 at home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Patterson, he was raised in Pompton Plains, and has been a resident of Hazlet for the past 40 years.


Lee served in the United States Army before being honorably discharged. He was a Special Agent with the Internal Revenue Service for over 35 years before retiring in 2002. Following his retirement, he was a State Investigator for the NJ Division of Criminal Justice for 11 years. He enjoyed fishing and travel, especially trips to Disney. Above all else he cherished his family and he will be deeply missed by those that knew and loved him.


He was predeceased by his parents Byron and Anne Bailey, his brother Peter, and cousin Bruce Sieling. Surviving are his beloved wife of 46 years Linda (Prendergast) Bailey of Hazlet; his children and their spouses: Laura O’ Donnell and Joe of Hillsborough, Dave Bailey and Eve of Monroe, NC, Steve Bailey and Lyn of Middletown, Anneabeth Menson and Jeff of Keansburg, and Adam Bailey of Charlotte, NC; and 10 grandchildren: Joey, Jack, Jace, Ginna, Byron, Natalie, Garnett, Ryan, Erik, and Alex.


A memorial gathering will be held on Monday, January 7 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home 115 Tindall Road, Middletown. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made  to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at pancan.org
