Thomas Scriffignano

Born Gaetano Scriffignano on September 28, 1923 to Filippo and Grazia. Thomas went home to be with his Lord on February 3, 2019 joining a host of family and friends who are celebrating his arrival.

Thomas graduated from Central High School in Newark, NJ and immediately entered the United States Army joining both of his older brothers, Frank and John. He was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division’s 327 Glider Infantry Regiment. Thomas was involved in four major campaigns which included: The Crossing of the Rhine, Actions in Dusseldorf and the Battle of Berlin. He married the love of his life “Jennie” in 1950. Thomas and Jennie moved to Middletown in 1957 and raised their family. He was employed at Nashua Printers in Newark, NJ until his retirement in 1986. Thomas was a proud and active member of VFW Post 2179 for many years. He would visit local schools every year and help teach students about World War II.

Thomas was predeceased by his parents, three brothers Peter, Frank, and John, three sisters Mildred, Louise and Carol. He is survived by his daughters and their husbands Jeanee Carotenuto and Michael, and Debra Gilmour and Bill, and his son Philip; eight grandchildren: Kristin Carotenuto, Jennifer and Jonathan Jezequel, Matthew and  Aidan Gilmour, Nicholas Gilmour,  Morgan Gilmour, Michael Carotenuto Jr. and his fiancé Caitlin Ferraro, and Thomas and Jonathan Scriffignano; and his sister Yolanda Cross. He was also blessed with wonderful neighbors on Barbara Terrace.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 from 7-9 pm at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home 115 Tindall Road in Middletown. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10 am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Holmdel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations be made to VFW Post 2179 in Port Monmouth NJ/Brick Fundraiser.
